Trio Arrested for Theft from Vehicle

Police have arrested three men, aged between 21 to 24 years old, for their suspected involvement in a series of theft from vehicle cases in the Yishun housing estate.

On 22 February 2010 at about 3.50am, Police were alerted to a case where three unknown men were behaving suspiciously at a Yishun Street 21 carpark. Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division responded immediately and spotted the three suspects trying to open the door of a vehicle at the said carpark. The three suspects were placed under arrest and a total of 13 cash cards, an Autopass card and a duplicate vehicle key, were also seized from the suspects’ possession. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were believed to be involved in a series of theft from vehicle cases in the Yishun housing estate.

The suspects will be charged in Court on 23 February 2010 for the offence of Theft from Vehicle with Common Intention under Section 379 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code Chapter 224, which carries a maximum jail term of three years imprisonment, or with fine or both.

Acting Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Superintendent of Police Manimaran Pushpanatan commended his officers for their prompt action which resulted in the arrest of the suspects. He also urged members of public to safeguard their vehicle against theft by adopting the following crime prevention measures:

- Park the vehicle in well-lit areas;

- Install an anti-theft alarm and secure the vehicle with additional locks where possible; and

- Be wary of suspicious characters loitering in carparks
